Alexandra F. Johnston

Professor emerita of English, University of Toronto; fellow of the Royal Society of Canada; co-founder and director of Records of English Drama from its inception in 1975 until 2011; chair the PLS board almost constantly since 1975; has been producer, director, dramaturge, actor and singer in many productions; principal of Victoria College, University of Toronto 1981-91 and acting principal 2003-4; editor or co-editor of six books and monographs (including York (1979) and Oxford University and City (2004) for the REED series); among other print and web publications, the author of more than 80 book chapters and journal articles on medieval and early modern drama.

David Klausner

David Klausner is professor emeritus in the Department of English and the Centre for Medieval Studies, University of Toronto, where he taught for forty-five years, specializing in Old English, late medieval English (including drama), and Middle Welsh. His editions of the records of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and the thirteen counties of Wales for Records of Early English Drama have led to a series of articles on players and playing in areas remote from the centre of London. He is presently editing the records of the North Riding of Yorkshire. David’s first contact with PLS came shortly after his arrival in Toronto, when he was cast as Garcio in a production of the Towneley Mactacio Abel mounted for the 1967-8 meeting of the Modern Language Association. Since then he has acted, directed, edited texts, and served as administrator in a wide range of productions. He is presently Chair of the PLS board of directors. He is the founding director of the Centre for Performance Studies in Early Theatre.
