An interview about Bethlehem’s Bower

From Julia Armstrong’s post to the St Thomas’s Facebook group:

It was fascinating to learn more about the source of the medieval plays being performed at St Thomas’s next weekend. Here’s my interview with those involved in producing and directing it (scroll below the poster): http://www.stthomas.on.ca/medieval-christmas

“Boys” in skirts

As rehearsals for A Medieval Christmas: Go We Hence to Bethlehem’s Bower continue apace (have a look at our cast & crew list), Julie Florio has uploaded some lovely photos of Shakespeare & the Queen’s Men, The Chester Shepherds and Don Juan, Ladykiller of Seville. Learn more about the SQM project at Performing the Queen’s Men (about the “boys” specifically here). We also have the Don Juan program online.

Bethlehem’s Bower first read-through

Today is the first read-through for our musical-comical-historical-pastoral extravaganza A Medieval Christmas: Go We Hence to Bethlehem’s Bower. The excitement!

We will be using edited selections from A.F. Johnston’s modernization of the N-Town Plays. If you’d like to read the plays, have a look at “The Nativity”, “The Adoration of the Shepherds”, and “The Adoration of the Magi”.

Busy busy busy!

Lots has been happening around here lately!

Auditions have finished for A Medieval Christmas: Go We Hence to Bethlehem’s Bower and a cast is being assembled. The production team is excited to begin rehearsals on October 30.

The Fall 2012 newsletter is in finishing stages and will be mailed out and uploaded to the website soon. Its updated information about our 2012-2013 season has been added to the website.

Ashgate published The Chester Cycle in Context, 1555-1575: Drama, Religion, and the Impact of Change, deriving in part from the conference on the cycle which took place simultaneously with PLS’s production of the complete cycle at Victoria College in June of 2010. The launch was held at the Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies on October 19.

Finally, how nifty is this trailer for the town of York’s 1940s-theme York Mystery Plays 2012?
